Topkapi Palace was the residence of the Ottoman sultans from the 15th to 19th centuries. When Sultan Mehmet conquered Istanbul in 1453, he made Istanbul the capital of his empire. His first palace was set in the middle of the town. In the 1470s, he built his second palace and initially named it the New Palace. The palace was subsequently renamed Topkapi Palace.
After the move of the Sultans to Dolmabahce Palace in 1853, Topkapi lost its importance as the official royal residence. It was left to deteriorate for a period and finally regained its former beauty after fifty years of continuous restoration in the Republican era. Topkapi was converted into a museum in 1924. I’m sure the Sultans would have moved a lot of their expensive and magnificent treasures to the new palace, however Topkapi still has a breathtaking collection of jewels (to die for!), weapons, porcelain, etc. Most of the objects exhibited in the palace today are unique masterpieces.
Topkapi is one of the must see places on your visit to Istanbul and its possible to spend a whole day here. My favourite section is the Treasury, where you can see bowls of emeralds, saphire, diamond displays, etc. Each time we’ve been there, it was an opportunity to salivate at the remarkable pieces royal ornaments covered with precious stones and to hope that maybe someone would give me just one of the stones. Unfortunately too, photography is not allowed in the Treasury as it would have nice to share with you pictures of those stones that would obsess anyone.
The private palaces of the Sultans, have been transformed into a series of great museums at the request of Ataturk. Topkapi is a classical example of Turkish palace architecture. Tree-shaded courtyards with monumental gates open onto one another and each one serving a different purpose. The courtyards are surrounded by functional buildings, e.g. the First Court was the service area and the Second Court housed the divan and was flanked by the kitchen and stables, etc. Since its construction, the palace developed constantly with alterations and additions made by each sultan.
Our visit today started at the royal kitchen. The number of giant pots and utensils give evidence of the size of the community in the palace.

The name of this trend is RnB nights…

Close your eyes and imagine you are one of the clubs in Los Angeles, Detroit or Miami. You no longer have to be in America or another country to make this dream real.

The RnB nights organized in Istanbul lay this entertainment at your door.

Large and décolleté clothes, people dancing as if jumped out from MTV clips, songs of world famous stars such as DMX, 50 Cent, Snoop Dog, Rihanna, Black Eyed Peas, Justin Jimberlake, etc…

Below are the places organizing more joyous and amusing nights than the other in Istanbul for you…

‘Super’ entertainment at Supper Club!

Supper Club which is one of the pioneers of this current with the ‘Rnb on The Bed’ nights it started in March 2009 offers unlimited entertainment to its visitors.

Nights with DJ Blackcat, DJ Mummy and DJ Selen playing both favorite RnB songs and their own productions are swarmed with music lovers.

‘RnB on The Bed’ which was held only Sundays before is now organized in Thursdays and Sundays due to the volume of the attendance. I recommend you to call Supper Club and make an early reservation if you want to go on Sunday night.

You do not pay an entrance fee for ‘RnB on The Bed’ starting at 11.30 till 05.30. On Sunday nights with a larger attendance than that of Thursday, the entertainment hit peak particularly between 11.30 – 01.30.

Address: Muallim Naci Cad. No.65 (Reina Karşısı) Ortaköy / Beşiktaş
Ph: 0 212 261 19 88

RnB nights with DC Ice at Fancy
One of the favorite places of night life in Levent since 2005, Fancy opened its doors for RnB fans on Thursday nights.

Entrance is free for these nights of enthusiasm created by the most favorite songs of DJ Ice we know from Riddim. You only pay for the food and beverage inside.

The entertainment starts at 11.00 and continue till 04.00. But the place becomes full at almost 01.00.

Address: Çalıkuşu Sokak No: 5, 1. Levent
Ph: 0 212 281 63 72

RnB wind is now in Kuruçeşme
A distinguished alternative for entertainment from Locca with RnB night in Kuruçeşme on Sundays…

Managed by Yetiş Erşahin, Bülent Temürtürkan and Buğra Barbaros, Locca offers a brand new alternative to Istanbul residents this winter.

The entertainment starting at 22.00 with DJ Savaş Koçoğlu, DJ Selami Ermiş and Mc Cabbar continues till 05.00.

Address: Muallim Naci Cad. No:77 Kuruçeşme
Ph: 0 532 475 49 89 (Reservation)

Riddim: an RnB classic
When talking about the RnB nights organized in Istanbul, it will be inappropriate to omit Riddim which is one of the leading places of RnB and Hip-hop music in Istanbul.

Having been open for music lovers in its place in Sıraselviler since 2004, Riddim continue to provide service with its new decoration on its upper floor it moved to.

Riddim is open 6 days a week with its capacity of 1000 people.

For only Friday and Saturday nights, you pay 25 TL for entrance. Entrance on other days is free.

Regular DJs of the place are DJ Ice and DJ Volkan.

Address: Sıraselviler Caddesi No: 69 Taksim Beyoğlu
Ph: 0 212 251 72 45

If you work in Şişli or occasionally come to the neighborhood, there is this cozy restaurant for which you can avoid any other alternatives in the vicinity: “Hamarat Ev Yemekleri”, where all the work is done only by “skillful” ladies, from the cooking to business management… This restaurant located in a two-storey building in Şişli is almost overflowing with customers at lunchtimes. Anyone finding out the magical touch of ladies on the meals becomes a regular of the restaurant. Any dish on the menu ensures you have the homemade taste of your mother’s meals… What you should not miss are particularly rice with anchovies, dried stuffed-eggplant, and meatballs with lemon sauce. And, of course, there is Kömbe to recommend. These ladies pack the sautéed meat with a thin sheet of dough to cook it in the oven! Definitely taste this special meal served hot in steam if it is offered on the daily menu. Only maize oil or sunflower seed oil is used in the meals. As the chefs do not prefer to use margarine in pan-cooked meals, all dishes have an utmost lightness and a delicious taste. Hamarat Ev Yemekleri is opened everyday at 7 am. Scrambled eggs, soups and breakfast are offered in the morning. The lunch is then served from 12 pm to 2 pm. The restaurant is open until 5.30 pm. Although they do not serve dinner, if you need a snack in the afternoon, you may well taste the home-style cookies cooked specifically for your tea time. You can purchase the cookies either by piece or by weight. Village-style cookies are especially delicious. The place serves 15 sorts of hot meals and 25 sorts of cold olive-oil dishes everyday. The prices are affordable as well. Hot dishes served with rice vary from 7 to 9 TL, or 5 to 7 TL if ordered as a single piece. You can also have chef’s dish of five selected olive-oil meals for 8 TL. Do not forget to have a taste of the crème brûlée served on small jam cups.
